Red Dog Radios

While our race car is already equipped with a race radio and intercom system, we did not have any radios for our chase trucks and pre-runner truck.  After a short talk with John Mathews of  Off-Track Motorsports we started talks with Tom Ohlsson from Red Dog Radios.  Tom was able to hook us up with a great discount on 4 radios, magnet mounts, antennas, and programming equipment.  As a courtesy, he also pre-programmed all four radios for us with several frequencies that we knew we wanted input.

Thanks to Tom, all of our chase and pre-run vehicles will be equipped with shiny new ICOM IC-F121 radios

Purchasing the Car

When we began hunting for our new race car, there were talks of open wheel buggies and pro-lite trucks.  While these could have been a blast, it really didn’t relate to Warrior and what we do, and therefore we really didn’t want to do anything that irrelevant to our business and our customers.

So that easily led us to the perfect soution, JeepSpeed.

We found a great car formerly sponsored by Eric Filar of National Drivetrain.  This car had been raced for quite a few years, had broken everything imaginable and was prepped well to deal with those common breaks.  This prep work led Eric’s team to a 1st in class finish in the Baja 1000 in 2009.

With the purchase of the car came a mission.  We needed to do extensive cosmetic and mechanical work to the car to get it up to WP standards, take time to start testing, and then of course, run some races.  Our schedule spread out just like this…

  • Early April – Repair major dents, fresh paint
  • Late April – Begin suspension and axle overhauls
  • Early May – Finish suspension and axle overhauls
  • Late May – Maintenance powertrain and miscellaneous repairs
  • June – Test & Tune
  • July – Test & Tune
  • August – Race time! Terrible’s Primm 300
  • September & October – Prep for race & repair as needed
  • Early November – Display in SEMA Show
  • November – Pre-running and Race Time! Tecate Baja 1000

As you can see, we’ve got a lot of work to do, so that’s all for now!

Safety Gear

Being that we are a new team, we have absolutely zero safety equipment for our drivers and co-drivers.

So what to do? The answer was simple once we began talking to our friend “Lizard” over at Mastercraft Safety. Along with the Signature Suits that Mastercraft builds here in the USA, the company has also recently taken on the Impact Race Products line of safety equipment.

Our end result is a head-to-toe outfitting.  We will be covering our heads with Impact’s Super Sport Air Helmet with a side draft air inlet.  A two-tone blue & black Mastercraft Signature Race Suit will cover us from neck to ankle and we’ll finish that off with the H/T Driver Shoe also from Impact Race Products.

Visit www.mastercraftsafety.com and www.impactraceproducts.com for more information on these quality American made products.  Thanks again Lizard and Mastercraft!
