Title Warrior's New Project YJ June 16th, 2009

With SEMA in the upcoming it is time to begin our project vehicles for the show. In addition to bringing out a new model Wrangler this year, we wanted to also bring out something to show our diverse product line stretching back into earlier era's of Jeep lines. Last year we accomplished this by bringing a 2008 Wrangler Rubicon, a 2005 Wrangler Sport, and a 1995 Jeep Cherokee SUV.

This year we will be bringing a 2009 Sunburst Orange Rubicon Unlimited loaded with our lift kit, bumpers, armor, and so on. Additionally this year, we stumbled across this 1992 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L and just had to scoop it up. We've decided to build this in mind for use at Moab EJS, Tierra Del Sol, and other off-road events, so we're really gonna gear up to build something neat.

Our plans for this Jeep will include custom suspension, roll cage, armor, led taillights, and everything we'll need to make this Jeep a blast to play with on the trails.

We'll be working with companies like BF Goodrich, Trailready, and several others that we've worked with in the past to outfit the Jeep with tires, wheels, seats, drivetrain, and possibly some performance products that we don't manufacture in house.

This project will prove to produce a very impressive new Jeep and Warrior play toy. Below is a little bit of what we've done so far just to get us started. We'll continue to blog a little bit more as we do more and more with the Jeep.

Tapping Holes Our first step was to completely strip the top and interior from the Jeep. The seats in this YJ were old, torn, and a terrible tan color. The carpet can basically match that exact descriptions as well. We removed everything minus the dash and pedals. We even yanked out the rollbar and all of the door mechanisms and the tail gate.
Locking Compound on Bolt Threads When we pulled the carpet and seats we found 5 bad spots in the floor. Luckily, none of it was rust! Instead we found several cracks from 17 years of the seats putting stress on the floor. We also found a puncture in the rear where it looks like someone had dropped something in the Jeep.

After some cleanup, we put Joe to work with his welder to repair the damage.

Rather than spend the resources prepping and re-painting the interior floor and sides, and then buying new carpet for the Jeep it was decided that there was a much better way to finish the interior.

A spray in bed lining would offer great strength, a nice black finish, and even deter a little road noise. We also knew that it would be very easy to hose out when it got dirty from the trails. So off the Jeep went to the local LineX shop.

Our next plans are to begin working on the rollcage, and then into the suspension. The cage will be completely custom built with integrated mounts for the seats and harnesses, and will be bolt in with tie-in mounts to the frame rails.

Stay tuned for more updates!
